Campton Academy

PSHCE

Intent

At Campton Academy our aim is for all our children to learn the skills and acquire the knowledge required to lead a happy and successful life both as a child and when they become adults.

We aim for our children to be able to make informed decisions about their health, wellbeing and relationships. We aim to build their resilience and help them to understand when and where to ask for help and support.

We provide a Values based education which promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical wellbeing of our children.

All children are given opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities and what is means to live in a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to play a positive role in school life and in the wider community.

Implementation

Pupils at Campton Academy receive a weekly PSHE lesson, based on the Medium Term Planning designed by the PSHE lead which follows advice from the PSHE association.

Our PSHE curriculum has three core themes, health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world. It also incorporates the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) scheme of work and highlights links to British Values, Campton Academy’s Values and Spiritual, Moral, Social and cultural (SMSC) development.

Pupils are taught a clear and comprehensive RSE scheme of work within PSHE, which is in line with the recommendations of teaching RSE as part of the National Curriculum. In addition to this, class teachers may feel it necessary to teach a specific element of the PSHE curriculum following an issue that has arisen in their class.

Assemblies with a specific focus on PSHE, British Values, Campton’s Values and SMSC are used to provide further opportunities to reinforce key objectives, share success and deliver content that is of benefit to the whole school.
